Screen Print Services at Zero Setup

Products customization, mainly garments, is one of the most popular trends today. This trend hit the highest gear in the 1950s when tees were widely customized. But, in truth, garment customization has been something practised from a very old time.

One of the oldest techniques of customizing a garment was screen print. In the earlier days, this technique was known as silk screen printing, as silk was used as a mesh for printing, whereas today, a polyester mesh is being used. Screen printing is believed to have been first used in Asia. By the 18th century, it was introduced to Europe and other regions but it didn’t gain much acceptance.

Screen printing is still widely accepted and one of the most popular customisation services. To simply define the process of screen printing, it is where a layer of ink is applied over a screen in order to produce a design. The screen is made of a piece of mesh stretched over a frame. While mostly polyester mesh is used now, you can also find special-use mesh materials of nylon and stainless steel.

While the ink is applied, it would get transferred to the substrate through the mesh. To prevent ink entering areas other than the design area, a blocking stencil is used. The open mesh apertures are filled with ink using a blade or squeegee and a reverse stroke is applied on the mesh, which causes the screen to touch the substrate. The ink in the mesh opening is squeezed by capillary action to the substrate in a controlled amount. As the squeegee moves toward the rear of the screen the tension of the mesh makes it pull away from the substrate, which leaves the ink upon the substrate surface.

Screen Printing can be used for printing a wide range of products and the textile industry has one of the biggest applications of screen printing. This technique can be used on various fabric types that include silk, polyester, cotton and many more. The major highlight of Screen Printing is that it supports multicolour. But on the other hand, only one colour can be used on a screen and in order to use multicolour, quite a few numbers of screens must be used. This printing technique can easily cater to bulk orders and it actually performs best with bulk amounts of products.
